E-Bike & Scooter Safety Reminder for Families
Posted Date: 04/07/26 (10:28 AM)
Dear Soledad USD Families,
We have recently seen an increase in students riding e-bikes and motorized scooters throughout our community. Unfortunately, this has also led to safety concerns, including at least two recent incidents where a scooter or powered bicycle collided with a vehicle.
We are asking for your partnership in reinforcing safe riding habits with your children.
Please review these important safety reminders:
- Ride like you’re driving a vehicle—follow all traffic laws
- Stop at stop signs and obey traffic signals
- Ride in the direction of traffic and stay near the right curb or in bike lanes when available
- Do not carry passengers unless the bike is designed for it
- Walk bikes/scooters when crossing the street
- Helmets are required for all riders
- Riders must be at least 16 years old for motorized scooters
- Scooters may not exceed 15 mph
- Do not ride on sidewalks or attach to vehicles
- E-bikes are not just bicycles—they can travel at speeds similar to traffic
- Make sure your child’s bike or scooter matches their age and ability
- Helmets should be non-negotiable
- Supervision and education are essential
Our goal is to keep every student safe. We appreciate your support in having these conversations at home and ensuring your child understands how to ride responsibly.
Together, we can help prevent accidents and protect our students.
Sincerely,
Soledad Unified School District
